Biography
Magician and mentalist Hayden Childress treats magic as an artistic medium rather than a puzzle, drawing on indie music, analog art and the cultural gaps between perception and reality. He has appeared on Penn & Teller: Fool Us on the CW network, and his work has been covered by Bloomberg and Timeout New York.
Every weekend he performs Urban Illusions, his 20-seat close-up residency in an East Village basement: a dark room, free black coffee, haze and VHS tapes, a show built on word of mouth into a cult following. He has also been commissioned for private events with groups such as Google, AirBnb, Microsoft and Gatorade, tailoring each performance to the moment, from mingling close-up work that escalates through the night to a banquet of 500 guests or a sit-down show for 20 in a private room.
